What have you learned new today?

This week we are beginning new units in math and in reading. In math, we are going to be learning about fractions. In reading, we are going to begin a 4 week unit on non-fiction literature.

For math we will get started learning about the numerator and denominator of a fraction. Remember, the nUmerator is "up on top" and the Denominator is "down below"! After that, we will quickly move in to understanding that fractions can be represented in many different ways but all mean that we have "part" of a "whole".

In reading, we are going to learn about informational text with a story about the Statue of Liberty. We will look at diagrams, captions, as well as many other features of text. We also will be working on our comprehension and understanding how these features help our learning.

Have you ever seen the Statue of Liberty in person? Do you have pictures or a video we could borrow? If so, please e-mail me or comment on this blog. We would love to hear from you!

I can't wait for this week to begin. Please ask your child what they are learning new each day!
